Heather Clarke
Heather spent her early years in the far north – Northern Ontario, Yukon and Northwest Territories-living in relatively isolated communities where exploring nature on land, water, and air was her backyard playground. Since then, she has developed a keen interest in exploring nature and culture through walking, hiking, kayaking, and photography in Ontario and British Columbia, as well as further afield. She has been a member and donor of Stanley Park Ecology for many years and appreciates participating in many of the learning opportunities offered.
Heather had a 50+ year career in nursing and healthcare that focused on community health, and with a PhD in nursing, worked on policy, research, and governance issues. Her area of expertise included First Nations health, nursing education, program evaluation, and evidence-based policy. She seized opportunities to take on leadership roles in professional organizations and research teams. Heather has also been and is involved in organizations focused on social issues and Indigenous culture and art, most frequently in a leadership position.
