IN-PERSON PROGRAM

Join our Birding with Me program! Get to know our local feathered friends while in community outdoors during this tour hosted in Spanish. Led by ornithologist Jenny Muñoz, this program will introduce participants to the birds found around Lost Lagoon in Stanley Park, as well as birding in general. This time of year is active and bustling with birds preparing their nests, incubating eggs, and some already raising their young into fledglings! Keep eyes and ears open for possible encounters with swallows, wood ducks and ducklings, hummingbirds, warblers, and many other visitors to the Park. No birding experience necessary!

Birding with Me was made possible through the financial support of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation’s National Anti-Racism Fund.

This program will be led in Spanish. (Este programa será en español.)

ABOUT THE PROGRAM LEADER

Jenny Muñoz (she/her) is an ornithologist passionate about bird conservation and community engagement. Originally from Colombia, she has spent years studying bird ecology in tropical regions, from the Amazon to the Andes. After focusing on ecological research for much of her career, she transitioned into the field of conservation, driven by a desire to apply science to protect birds and their habitats. Now based in Vancouver, she works with Birds Canada, where she researches priority areas for conservation in and around British Columbia. Jenny believes birding should be accessible to everyone and is excited to lead this Spanish-language birding tour, creating a welcoming space for the community to connect with nature and appreciate birds together.

ABOUT “BIRDING WITH ME” SERIES

Come Birding with Me and learn about our local birds on free, guided bird walks that celebrate diversity in bird and human communities. Inspired by the National Audubon Society’s Let’s Go Birding Together series, Birding with Me walks welcome in experts and participants of shared identity to explore birding together and meet new people.

The land on which we gather is the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Peoples. Their stewardship and respect for this land has carried forward for thousands of years long before settlers named it “Stanley Park”.
