SUMMARY:[FULL] Birding with Me: Observando Aves con la Comunidad Hispana
DESCRIPTION:Register\n Problems using the registration form below? You can also register here. \n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n\n\n\nIN-PERSON PROGRAM \n\n\n\nJoin our Birding with Me program! Get to know our local feathered friends while in community outdoors during this tour hosted in Spanish. Led by ornithologist Jenny Muñoz\, this program will introduce participants to the birds found around Lost Lagoon in Stanley Park\, as well as birding in general. This time of year is active and bustling with birds preparing their nests\, incubating eggs\, and some already raising their young into fledglings! Keep eyes and ears open for possible encounters with swallows\, wood ducks and ducklings\, hummingbirds\, warblers\, and many other visitors to the Park. No birding experience necessary! \n\n\n\nBirding with Me was made possible through the financial support of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation’s National Anti-Racism Fund. \n\n\n\nThis program will be led in Spanish. (Este programa será en español.)  \n\n\n\nABOUT THE PROGRAM LEADER \n\n\n\nJenny Muñoz (she/her) is an ornithologist passionate about bird conservation and community engagement. Originally from Colombia\, she has spent years studying bird ecology in tropical regions\, from the Amazon to the Andes. After focusing on ecological research for much of her career\, she transitioned into the field of conservation\, driven by a desire to apply science to protect birds and their habitats. Now based in Vancouver\, she works with Birds Canada\, where she researches priority areas for conservation in and around British Columbia. Jenny believes birding should be accessible to everyone and is excited to lead this Spanish-language birding tour\, creating a welcoming space for the community to connect with nature and appreciate birds together. \n\n\n\nABOUT “BIRDING WITH ME” SERIES \n\n\n\nCome Birding with Me and learn about our local birds on free\, guided bird walks that celebrate diversity in bird and human communities. Inspired by the National Audubon Society’s Let’s Go Birding Together series\, Birding with Me walks welcome in experts and participants of shared identity to explore birding together and meet new people. \n\n\n\nPROGRAM DETAILS \n\n\n\nAccessibility notes: This program will move at a moderate pace around a mostly level path around Lost Lagoon on concrete\, gravel\, and dirt trails with a few moderate inclines. The group may possibly go to the seawall or a nearby forest trail\, depending on the birds. If you have any questions or input about accessibility\, please email publiced@stanleyparkecology.ca    \n\n\n\nThis program will meet at the Nature House on Lost Lagoon (located near the intersection of Alberni and Chilco Street\, accessible via the paths at the edge of the Lagoon).  Please arrive 5 minutes early to sign in.   \n\n\n\nTerms and Conditions \n\n\n\n(1) Registration required - NO DROP-INS ARE ALLOWED.  This program is free! If you register and no longer can make it\, please email us at publiced@stanleyparkecology.ca so we can offer the space to another participant. \n\n\n\n(2) Weather – Our tours typically run rain or shine. Rarely\, programs may be postponed or cancelled due extreme weather like high winds or extreme heat.  We will alert you by email if the program needs to be rescheduled.  \n\n\n\nThe land on which we gather is the traditional\, ancestral\, and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam)\, Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish)\, and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Peoples. Their stewardship and respect for this land has carried forward for thousands of years long before settlers named it “Stanley Park”.
