ONLINE PROGRAM

Are you interested in learning how to make cities safer for birds? Join us to learn about research outcomes of solutions implemented to address key threats facing birds in urban areas, including predation by domestic and feral cats, window collisions, light pollution, and vehicular collisions. We will discuss the effectiveness of proposed and implemented solutions in research as well as areas to focus future efforts in research and practice.

This event is part of the Greater Vancouver Bird Celebration!

LEADER BIO

Aalia Khan is a Master’s student with Dr. Rachel Buxton’s Biodiversity Conservation Solutions Lab at Carleton University. She is working with Nature Canada to explore outcomes of solutions to key threats facing birds in cities through a global evidence synthesis and meta-analysis on urban bird conservation interventions. Aalia aims to use her findings to help guide future research efforts, as well as initiatives supported by Nature Canada’s Bird Friendly Cities program.

The land on which we gather is the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Musqueam (xʷməθkʷəy̓əm), Squamish (Skwxwú7mesh), and Tsleil-Waututh (səlilwətaɬ) Peoples. Their stewardship and respect for this land has carried forward for thousands of years long before settlers named it “Stanley Park”.
