IN-PERSON PROGRAM
Join our Birding with Me program! Get to know our local feathered friends while in community outdoors. Led by biologist and photographer Kris Cu, this program will introduce participants to the birds found at Iona Beach Regional Park and birding in general. This time of year, the waters, trees, and skies of Iona Beach are home to the spring and summer residents, many of which have traveled hundreds or thousands of kilometers for the spring migration season. Keep your eyes and ears open for possible encounters with swallows, hummingbirds, warblers, and many other visitors to the park. No experience necessary, and participants will be able to borrow binoculars from Kris! This event is part of the Greater Vancouver Bird Celebration!
This event is reserved specifically for the Filipino community, in order to provide a safe and inclusive space to explore birding and nature.
Birding with Me was made possible through the financial support of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation’s National Anti-Racism Fund.
ABOUT THE GREATER VANCOUVER BIRD CELEBRATION
Get more familiar with the birds around us during the Greater Vancouver Bird Celebration! Organized by a collection of non-profits, artists, and other institutions, the Celebration is a two-week series of events to appreciate the bird species of Greater Vancouver. Events are open to all and most are free, with programs including bird-related workshops, walks, talks, exhibitions, and lectures. Check out all the events here: https://vancouverbirdcelebration.ca/

The land on which we gather is the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Peoples. Their stewardship and respect for this land has carried forward for thousands of years long before settlers named it “Stanley Park”.
