Birds of a Feather: Chicks and Chirps

We’re in the thick of summer, and the young fledglings are beginning to take to the tree branches and learning to fend for themselves. Join us on our casual monthly birding program, Birds of a Feather! This month, join a local birder for a relaxed interpretive outing and learn to identify and appreciate seasonal bird species, keeping our eyes and ears out for juvenile ducks, fast-flying swallows, chirping songbirds, and more. No experience required, just bring your curiosity and take flight!  Participants can borrow binoculars.

Whether you’re visiting Stanley Park for the first time, or you’re a local who’s curious to learn more, this tour will share new sights in Stanley Park.  

Stanley Park teems with an amazing variety of wildlife. At least 1500 species are known to live in the park. Join an Educator from Stanley Park Ecology to observe and notice the wildlife, plants, and history of surrounding ecosystems. From towering trees to rocky shorelines, home to shy and mysterious creatures and delicate plants, this walk will highlight the captivating biodiversity of Stanley Park. Space is limited to 20 participants.

Discover the incredible variety and lives of local birds and wildlife in our nearby greenspaces! Join a local bird educator for a relaxed introduction to birding for beginners. Learn to identify and appreciate seasonal bird species and participate in community science through apps like eBird, while witnessing the wildlife that call these restored local greenspaces home. No birding experience required, just bring your curiosity and take flight! Participants can borrow binoculars.

This no cost guided walk is presented in collaboration with the City of Vancouver.

Seaweeds of Stanley Park

Join a UBC researcher for a wander at low tide to learn all about these vital marine organisms that capture carbon in the ocean, provide crucial habitat and food, and thrive along the shores of Stanley Park. Take a closer look with hand lenses and learn how to recognize different traits of seaweed species during Ocean Month!

Your Observation Matters: Post-Panel Bird Walk

Come along for our “Your Observation Matters” Bird Walk Series, and meet our panelists in an outdoor setting!

Join Khalid Boudreau, Education Director at Special Bird Service, and Frank Lin, SPE Educator and wildlife photographer, for a special bird walk here in Stanley Park. Explore the birds found in nearby ecosystems during the peak of spring migration, with singing warblers and colourful hummingbirds flying through trees and flower-filled shrubs. No birding knowledge or experience necessary, just bring your curiosity! Participants can borrow binoculars, and there is also a chance to sign up after the main Panel event.
