We’ll learn how to recognize the late fall/early winter traits of some common forest and urban trees by taking a closer look at their bark, cones, and needles. No plant ID experience necessary!

Every second of every day and night, countless cycles are churning around us, carried on by millions of organisms big and small. Join us to discover the intricate relationships that bind the forest ecosystem together — from the textured lichens clinging to tree bark, to the mysterious mycelial network under the soil, to the flying squirrels who spread the spores of mushrooms as they collect and dry them in the forest!

Wigeons and Waddles: Duck Walk

If you’ve been around the waters of Stanley Park, you’ve likely noticed the hundreds (and often thousands!) of wigeons gathered nearby. This time of year, many ducks and other water birds arrive to our region during the fall migration period, and it’s a great time to dive into birding and get to know these diverse and charming feathered friends. Join SPE Nature House Educator, avid birder, and photographer Frank Lin for a stroll around the nearby waters to appreciate the quacks and splashes of the autumn season.
