It’s the perfect season for cozy winter workshops and colourful holiday lights as we appreciate the greenery and cold weather. Join us and our instructor, Jenna Leith, for this beginner-friendly watercolour workshop to learn some basic techniques and use them to bring holiday motifs and winter trees to life on paper.

If you’re curious about learning some beginner tree identification, join us for a relaxed outing in “Stanley Park”! We’ll learn how to recognize the late fall/early winter traits of some common forest and urban trees by taking a closer look at their bark, cones, and needles. No plant ID experience necessary!

Join us to discover the intricate relationships that bind the forest ecosystem together — from the textured lichens clinging to tree bark, to the mysterious mycelial network under the soil, to the flying squirrels who spread the spores of mushrooms as they collect and dry them in the forest!

Wigeons and Waddles: Duck Walk

If you’ve been around the waters of Stanley Park, you’ve likely noticed the hundreds (and often thousands!) of wigeons gathered nearby. This time of year, many ducks and other water birds arrive to our region during the fall migration period, and it’s a great time to dive into birding and get to know these diverse and charming feathered friends. Join SPE Nature House Educator, avid birder, and photographer Frank Lin for a stroll around the nearby waters to appreciate the quacks and splashes of the autumn season.
