In this beginner-friendly art workshop led by local glass artist Debbie Hungle, participants will get to create a nature-inspired glass design sing cut pieces of glass and mosaic techniques. Choose from a wide selection of bases — from birds to insects to plants and more — to create your ornament, coaster, paperweight, or glass display piece.

Come out to our Winter Watercolour Workshop to spend a cozy January morning doing some nature-inspired art. Join us and our instructor, Jenna Leith, for this beginner-friendly watercolour workshop to learn basic techniques and use them to bring winter scenes and seasonal nature to life on paper.

Birds of a Feather: Frosty Flutters

Discover the incredible variety and lives of local birds in our monthly birding program, Birds of a Feather. This month, join avid birder, wildlife photographer, and SPE Nature House Outreach Specialist Frank Lin for a relaxed interpretive outing and learn to identify and appreciate seasonal bird species. In the winter, it’s the perfect time to spend a Sunday morning surrounded by flutters, calls, and squawks, with lots of winter ducks floating on the waters of Lost Lagoon. No birding experience required, just bring your curiosity and take flight!

World Waterfowl Day: Drop-In Duck Talks

Join our World Waterfowl Day celebration with our drop-in Duck Talks at the Nature House! If you’ve visited the waters of Stanley Park this winter, you’ve likely noticed the hundreds (and sometimes thousands!) of charming waterfowl that have taken up residence for the cold season. Swing by the Nature House at 1:00, 2:00, or 3:00 pm for a drop-in duck presentation all about these diverse winter birds.

World Waterfowl Day: Guided Duck Walk

It’s World Waterfowl Day and we’re celebrating the resident winter waterbirds around Stanley Park! Through the winter season, tens of thousands of waterfowl spend their time on the shores of Vancouver, in what has been designated the English Bay, Burrard Inlet & Howe Sound Important Bird & Biodiversity Area (IBA). Two of the most common are the Surf Scoter and Barrow’s Goldeneye, among many other charismatic birds. Join wildlife photographer and SPE Nature House Educator Frank Lin in this walk to learn about these two fascinating sea ducks and their relatives that find their way to Stanley Park Seawall.

Wreath-Making Workshop and Cocoa

Join us for a session of wreath-making, hot cocoa, and tea! It’s the perfect time to brighten up the winter with some greenery, so come out to learn how to create an eco-wreath for your home or as a gift to a loved one. We’ll be using locally sourced plant materials like western redcedar and douglas-fir windfall branches, cones and more during this festive crafty workshop (materials included).
