Kelp Fest’s Intertidal Adventure

Ever wondered who those slimy-looking things down by the seawall actually are? Come explore Stanley Park during a low tide to see one of the biggest seaweed hotspots in Vancouver! Join seaweed scientist and enthusiast Ruby Burns to learn the names of our local marine “fronds” with a morning coffee in hand. This event is part of Vancouver Kelp Fest, a celebration of our unique urban coastline. Come stop by Kelp Fest’s main event on August 23rd at the Museum of Vancouver to eat kelp snacks, make seaweed art, and learn from local restoration experts

Birds in Green Spaces: Beginner Bird Walk

Discover the incredible variety and lives of local birds and wildlife in our local greenspaces. Join a local bird educator for a relaxed introduction to birding for beginners. Learn to identify and appreciate seasonal bird species and participate in community science through apps like eBird, while witnessing the wildlife that call these restored local greenspaces home. No birding experience required, just bring your curiosity and take flight! Participants can borrow binoculars.
This no cost guided walk is presented in collaboration with the City of Vancouver.

Test the Water! Water Quality Demo with Water Rangers

Celebrate Ocean Week (June 1-8) in Stanley Park! In this free hands-on intro session with Water Rangers, participants get to try a suite of water testing tools used by community scientists monitoring lakes, rivers, and ocean sites across Canada. We’ll measure dissolved oxygen, air and water temperature, water clarity using a Secchi disc, and key chemical parameters including pH, hardness, nitrate, and nitrite using test strips including a salinity meter to explore what makes marine and freshwater environments so distinct. No experience needed, just curiosity about the water around you.

Birding with Me: Welcoming the LGBTQ2S+ Community

Join our Birding with Me program! Get to know our local feathered friends while in community outdoors. Led by biologist Rémi Torrenta, this program will guide participants through encounters with the local birds found in Stanley Park. Explore the waters of Lost Lagoon and the trees and plants that line the trail, and keep your eyes and ears out for the many summer residents that could be found, such as warblers, swallows, hummingbirds, flycatchers, and more. No experience necessary, and participants will be able to borrow binoculars from Rémi!

This event is reserved specifically for LGBTQ2S+ individuals, in order to provide a safe and inclusive space to explore birding and nature.
