Welcome senior participants! Join us for a slow-paced stroll around Lost Lagoon to learn about the migrating birds birds and other wildlife in the nearby waters, trees, and shores during the autumn season. We’ll turn our attention to the colourful ducks and chirping songbirds, plus look out for recent beaver activity and whatever else we can find along the way.

The autumn season is the height of mushroom time in our region, and we’re ready to dive into the ecology and diversity of the fungal world! Join us for a beginner mushroom walk to learn how to get started with identifying groups of fungi and a few common species that can be found nearby. We’ll discuss traits and textures of mushrooms and learn how they contribute as vital members of local ecosystems.

What happens in the Park after dark? Join us for a stroll to learn all about the nocturnal animals of the waters, skies, and forest and how they adapt to thrive after the sun has set. We’ll try our luck and listen for the slap of beaver tails, the hoots of owls, and the yips of coyotes and other creatures who come out in the evening light on this nature outing. Bring a friend, a flashlight, and a curious mind as we explore the critters who reign during the night shift!
This program will take place in low light conditions, with the last portion in the dark. Please bring a flashlight (and consider one with a red light if possible to reduce the disturbance of wildlife, and to maximize our own night vision!)

This month, join a birder for a casual fall birding walk as we appreciate the feathered friends around us during this season of transition, especially ducks and other winter residents returning to Stanley Park. No experience required, just bring your curiosity and take flight! Participants can borrow binoculars.
