SUMMARY:Recital with a Forest
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets\n Problems using the ticket form below? You can also get tickets here. \n SPES uses the Zeffy platform to process payments\, so your entire purchase goes to us. If you’d like to help Zeffy keep running its services\, you can choose to tip them. The Ensemble’s instruments are made of land-based materials (cast-offs from local trees\, found feathers\, stones and shells) combined with contact mics\, biosensors\, and computer software. The participating trees are carefully wrapped with Ribbon Tree fabric\, and the performance takes place against a backdrop of Listening to the Forest gratitude blanket by Métis artist Lara Felsing. The Ensemble uses techniques of listening and responding as a sonic weaving of human touch\, tree acoustics and forest liveliness. Come and listen within the beautiful and calming forest of Xwayxway (Stanley Park). \n\n\n\nThe event includes a discussion about the project\, with an optional Q&A and demo opportunity for audience members to interact with the instruments and artwork. \n\n\n\nBranching Song Ensemble (https://www.branchingsongs.org): \n\n\n\n\nGiorgio Magnanensi\n\n\n\nJulie Andreyev \n\n\n\nKeira Madsen\n\n\n\nMyles Feltenberger\n\n\n\nSimon Overstall\n\n\n\n\nOne week after the performance will be a hands-on workshop available for separate registration\, where participants will get to use field recording equipment and contact microphones to interact with trees in the forest. Equipment is provided. Participants are welcome to be seated during the performance on the ground or on logs in the space\, with some foam sitting mats available as well as space for participants to bring their own chairs. We may be able to provide some chairs\, please let us know. The performance will be 45-60 minutes long. An optional Q&A and demo will follow. If you have any questions or input about accessibility\, please email publiced@stanleyparkecology.ca     \n\n\n\nThis program will meet at the Stanley Park Loop @ Bay 1 (#19 Bus Stop located near Stanley Park Pavilion) and proceed to South Creek Trail where it intersects with Beaver Lake Trail   \n\n\n\nTerms and Conditions \n\n\n\n(1) Registration required - NO DROP-INS ARE ALLOWED.  Fees for this program are based on a sliding scale – reduced fees are available for those with financial barriers. SUMMARY:Workshop: Listening Walk\, Field Recording and Sounding with a Forest
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets\n Problems using the ticket form below? You can also get tickets here. \n SPES uses the Zeffy platform to process payments\, so your entire purchase goes to us. If you’d like to help Zeffy keep running its services\, you can choose to tip them. Julie Andreyev and the Branching Songs team lead this multidimensional workshop exploring sound\, listening\, and interspecies communication using visualization methods and field recording technologies. Participants will be introduced to techniques in expanding their hearing sense and how this can strengthen their connection to the natural world. \n\n\n\nParticipants will be invited to connect to trees using mind’s eye techniques while learning about biological activity beneath the forest floor and within trees\, and the way trees communicate with their communities. Attendees will be introduced to field recording equipment and use contact microphones to intimately listen to trees. Sound art with trees will be explored through these technologies along with improvisational and land-based methods. Branching Songs website: https://www.branchingsongs.org/ \n\n\n\nEquipment is provided\, but attendees are asked to bring 4 AA rechargeable batteries. Please bring water and an optional snack! Participants who have their own field recording equipment or wired over-ear headphones are welcome to bring them. \n\n\n\nPROGRAM LEADER BIO \n\n\n\nJulie Andreyev is an artist-activist\, researcher and educator in Vancouver\, located on the unceded\, traditional territories of the  xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam)\, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish)\, and səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations\, as well as the unceded traditional territories of nonhuman animals and plant life including bears\, deer\, raccoons\, eagles\, ravens\, crows\, hummingbirds\, cedar\, fir\, salal and others.
