Twilight Tour: Beaver Lake is Awake

As sunset approaches in Stanley Park each day, the wetland ecosystems awake with activity. Join this guided evening tour to learn about the history, ecology, and twilight wildlife of Beaver Lake! Led by an Educator from Stanley Park Ecology, we’ll keep our senses tuned to the signs of wildlife – listening for the croaks of frogs, the buzz of dragonflies, and calls of wetland birds. With any luck, the bats and beavers will emerge for an evening of feeding at the lake. Space is limited to 20 participants.

Stanley Park teems with an amazing variety of wildlife. At least 1500 species are known to live in the park. Join an Educator from Stanley Park Ecology to observe and notice the wildlife, plants, and history of surrounding ecosystems. From towering trees to rocky shorelines, home to shy and mysterious creatures and delicate plants, this walk will highlight the captivating biodiversity of Stanley Park. Space is limited to 20 participants.

Birds of a Feather: Fall Migrations

As September arrives, it's time for many migratory birds to start flying to their overwintering grounds. Let's welcome the changing seasons in our monthly birding program, Birds of a Feather. Join a local birder for a relaxed interpretive outing and learn to identify and appreciate seasonal bird species like ducks, raptors, and small songbirds. No experience required, just bring your curiosity and take flight! Participants can borrow binoculars.

Birds in Green Spaces: Beginner Bird Walk

Discover the incredible variety and lives of local birds and wildlife in our nearby greenspaces! Join a local bird educator for a relaxed introduction to birding for beginners. Learn to identify and appreciate seasonal bird species and participate in community science through apps like eBird, while witnessing the wildlife that call these restored local greenspaces home. No birding experience required, just bring your curiosity and take flight! Participants can borrow binoculars.

This no cost guided walk is presented in collaboration with the City of Vancouver.

Senior Stroll: Fall Birds and Nature Walk

Welcome senior participants! Join us for a slow-paced stroll around Lost Lagoon to learn about the migrating birds birds and other wildlife in the nearby waters, trees, and shores during the autumn season. We'll turn our attention to the colourful ducks and chirping songbirds, plus look out for recent beaver activity and whatever else we can find along the way.

Do you feel the cool wind of autumn sweeping the shores, forests and wetlands of Stanley Park? Thousands of birds are migrating here from their summer breeding grounds to take advantage of relatively mild winter conditions and nutrient-rich shorelines. Discover the incredible variety and lives of local birds in our monthly birding program, Birds of a Feather! This month, join a birder for a casual fall birding walk as we appreciate the feathered friends around us during this season of transition, especially ducks and other winter residents returning to Stanley Park. No experience required, just bring your curiosity and take flight! Participants can borrow binoculars.

Creatures of the Night

What happens in the Park after dark? Join us for a stroll to learn all about the nocturnal animals of the waters, skies, and forest and how they adapt to thrive after the sun has set. We'll try our luck and listen for the slap of beaver tails, the hoots of owls, and the yips of coyotes and other creatures who come out in the evening light on this nature outing. Bring a friend, a flashlight, and a curious mind as we explore the critters who reign during the night shift!

This program will take place in low light conditions, with the last portion in the dark. Please bring a flashlight (and consider one with a red light if possible to reduce the disturbance of wildlife, and to maximize our own night vision!)

Mushrooms 101: Fungus Forms and Features

Celebrate Halloween with our spooky, slimy, mushroom pals! The autumn season is the height of mushroom time in our region, and we're ready to dive into the ecology and diversity of the fungal world! Join us for a beginner mushroom walk to learn how to get started with identifying groups of fungi and a few common species that can be found nearby. We'll discuss traits and textures of mushrooms and learn how they contribute as vital members of local ecosystems.
