SUMMARY:The Big Sit (In-person)
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets\n Problems using the ticket form below? You can also get tickets here. \n SPES uses the Zeffy platform to process payments\, so your entire purchase goes to us. If you’d like to help Zeffy keep running its services\, you can choose to tip them. If you don’t want to\, choose “Other” in the drop-down menu and then enter $0. \n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n\n\n\nIN-PERSON PROGRAM  \n\n\n\nEvery year\, birders across North America (and open to anyone in the world) take part in an all-day\, stationary bird watch presented by the Stanley Park Ecology Society and Birds Canada: The Big Sit. The goal? To record the variety of birds in an area through patient and peaceful observation. Join us and Birds Canada with local birders for our very own Big Sit stationed in the accessible and beloved birding destination of Lost Lagoon. With the help of birding experts and staff\, have a seat with a beautiful view of the water\, forest\, skies and mountains and use binoculars and scopes to spot dozens of bird species! We’ll be set up from 8am to 2pm\, and you are welcome to drop in for as long as you like. At the end of the day\, we’ll take your observations and submit them to eBird to contribute to a valuable set of bird data! No matter how much birding knowledge or experience you have\, you can be proud to take part in a project that broadens our knowledge of bird range and diversity. See you in the Park!  \n\n\n\nWe are proud to include this program in our Vancouver Bird Celebration events. Check out our other free events from May 14 to May 29 and get excited about birds with us!  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThis program will meet at the Lost Lagoon Viewing Platform and the Nature House on Lost Lagoon (located near the intersection of Alberni and Chilco Street). Please sign a health check agreement when you arrive.  \n\n\n\nMasks are optional for this outdoor program.  \n\n\n\n   \n\n\n\nAccessibility note: This location is sidewalk and wheelchair accessible. There is a public\, wheelchair accessible washroom nearby. You may stay for whatever time you are comfortable with and will be able to participate regardless. If you have any questions about accessibility\, please email Anna at publiced@stanleyparkecology.ca.    \n\n\n\n   \n\n\n\n*By purchasing a ticket\, you are agreeing to complete the following health check at the start of your program.   \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n**Pre-registration is optional but suggested. This program is free! Please consider donating with pre-registration\, and all donations will go to funding future events like this.        \n\n\n\n    \n\n\n\n***This program is weather dependent.  Please check your email 12 hours before the program date/time to confirm it has not been cancelled due to inclement weather such as high winds\, heavy rain or extreme heat. Please dress appropriately for the weather.  \n\n\n\n****Program full or you can’t attend this day/time?  Sign up here to be notified if this program runs again in the future!          \n\n\n\n        \n\n\n\n*****Cancellation policy – We are accommodating refunds for cancellations due to illness to keep everyone healthy\, but the number of recent cancellations is impacting our capacity to run these programs. If you must cancel\, please let us know if you need a refund or if you are able to help us offer affordable programs for the public (we will continue to seek ways of subsidizing programs in this changing economic climate as well!)          \n\n\n\n        \n\n\n\nWe gratefully acknowledge that the land on which we gather and help steward is the unceded and traditional territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam)\, Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) Nation\, and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Since time immemorial\, Coast Salish peoples have lived reciprocally with the land\, harvesting and cultivating foods and medicines and practicing ceremony. The abundance of these lands and waters\, which enables us to live\, work\, and play here today\, is a result of the past and on-going stewardship and advocacy of the Coast Salish peoples.
