IN-PERSON PROGRAM
Have you noticed the colourful ducks splashing in the waters of the Salish Sea? Join this birding program to learn about two common winter residents of Stanley Park: the Lesser Scaup and the Surf Scoter (plus other waterbirds nearby like the Common Merganser!). Led by avid birder, wildlife photographer, and SPE Nature House Outreach Specialist Frank Lin, this walk will bring participants to the seawall to admire the flocks of birds in the waves and learn about their identifying traits and seasonal behaviours. No birding experience necessary! Feel free to bring your own binoculars or borrow ours.
PROGRAM DETAILS
Accessibility notes: This program will move at a slow to moderate pace with minimal gentle inclines on some uneven surfaces (such as packed gravel and pavement) for up to 1.5 hours, mostly on flat terrain on the seawall (concrete) and around Lost Lagoon (packed gravel and dirt). If you have any questions about accessibility, please email Julia at publiced@stanleyparkecology.ca
This program will meet at the Nature House on Lost Lagoon (located near the intersection of Alberni and Chilco Street, under the viewing platform facing the Lagoon). Please arrive 5-10 minutes early to sign in.

The land on which we gather is the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Peoples. Their stewardship and respect for this land has carried forward for thousands of years long before settlers named it “Stanley Park”.
