The Ensemble’s instruments are made of land-based materials (cast-offs from local trees\, found feathers\, stones and shells) combined with contact mics\, biosensors\, and computer software. The participating trees are carefully wrapped with Ribbon Tree fabric\, and the performance takes place against a backdrop of Listening to the Forest gratitude blanket by Métis artist Lara Felsing. The Ensemble uses techniques of listening and responding as a sonic weaving of human touch\, tree acoustics and forest liveliness. Come and listen within the beautiful and calming forest of Xwayxway (Stanley Park). \n\n\n\nThe event includes a discussion about the project\, with an optional Q&A and demo opportunity for audience members to interact with the instruments and artwork. \n\n\n\nBranching Song Ensemble (https://www.branchingsongs.org): \n\n\n\n\nGiorgio Magnanensi\n\n\n\nJulie Andreyev \n\n\n\nKeira Madsen\n\n\n\nMyles Feltenberger\n\n\n\nSimon Overstall\n\n\n\n\nOne week after the performance will be a hands-on workshop available for separate registration\, where participants will get to use field recording equipment and contact microphones to interact with trees in the forest. Equipment is provided. Register here: https://stanleyparkecology.ca/event/workshop-listening-walk-field-recording-and-sounding-with-a-forest/ \n\n\n\nPROGRAM DETAILS \n\n\n\nAccessibility notes: This program takes place just off of a gravel trail\, on uneven forest terrain located just over 10 minutes walking distance from the Stanley Park Pavilion and bus loop. Participants are welcome to be seated during the performance on the ground or on logs in the space\, with some foam sitting mats available as well as space for participants to bring their own chairs. We may be able to provide some chairs\, please let us know. The performance will be 45-60 minutes long. An optional Q&A and demo will follow. If you have any questions or input about accessibility\, please email publiced@stanleyparkecology.ca     \n\n\n\nThis program will meet at the Stanley Park Loop @ Bay 1 (#19 Bus Stop located near Stanley Park Pavilion) and proceed to South Creek Trail where it intersects with Beaver Lake Trail   \n\n\n\nTerms and Conditions \n\n\n\n(1) Registration required - NO DROP-INS ARE ALLOWED.  Fees for this program are based on a sliding scale – reduced fees are available for those with financial barriers. Their stewardship and respect for this land has carried forward for thousands of years long before settlers named it “Stanley Park”.
