SUMMARY:Get to Know Your Mushroom Neighbour
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets\n Problems using the ticket form below? You can also get tickets here. \n SPES uses the Zeffy platform to process payments\, so your entire purchase goes to us. If you’d like to help Zeffy keep running its services\, you can choose to tip them. If you don’t want to\, choose “Other” in the drop-down menu and then enter $0. \n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nIN-PERSON PROGRAM   \n\n\n\nJoin us on an exciting exploration of local fungi with mycologist Willoughby Arévalo! Through this event\, you will gain knowledge on mushroom identification\, fungal biology and ecology\, culinary and medicinal applications\, ethical harvesting\, and traditional and contemporary uses of mushrooms. Participants will have the opportunity to observe mushrooms holistically\, work towards building relationships with them\, and learn the active roles that fungi play in symbiosis\, succession\, and regeneration.   \n\n\n\n   \n\n\n\nABOUT PROGRAM LEADER   \n\n\n\nWilloughby Arévalo is a mycologist\, artist\, kitchen wizard\, father\, and educator who made friends with mushrooms as a young child and has been showing people how to work with fungi for the last decade. Willoughby regularly teaches community workshops locally and internationally on mushroom cultivation\, ecology\, identification\, foraging\, and cooking\, and is a member of the Vancouver Mycological Society. He makes art in relation to fungi\, and grows mushrooms at his home in Vancouver\, BC. He is the author of DIY Mushroom Cultivation: Growing Mushrooms at Home for Food\, Medicine\, and Soil (2019).    \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nPROGRAM DETAILS      \n\n\n\nAccessibility notes: This program requires moving at a moderate pace with moderate inclines on some uneven surfaces. The program is an interpretive wander of trails and sidewalks\, depending on mushroom locations. If you have any questions or input about accessibility\, please email Anna at publiced@stanleyparkecology.ca      \n\n\n\n      \n\n\n\nThis program will meet at the Stanley Park Dining Pavilion (located between the Stanley Park Rose Garden and the Bus Loop). Please arrive 5 minutes early to sign in.   (1) (2) (3) (4)     \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nTerms and conditions    \n\n\n\n(1) Registration required - NO DROP-INS ARE ALLOWED.  Fees for this program are based on a sliding scale – you choose what you pay!          \n\n\n\n(2) Weather dependent - Please check your email 12 hours before the program date and time to confirm it has not been cancelled due to inclement weather such as high winds\, heavy rain\, or extreme heat.                \n\n\n\n(3) Program Availability – Program full or you cannot attend this day or time?  Sign up here to be notified when the program runs in the future.        \n\n\n\n(4) Cancellation policy – We refund cancellations due to illness to keep everyone healthy\, but the number of recent cancellations is impacting our capacity to run these programs. If you must cancel\, please let us know if you need a refund or if you are able to help us offer affordable programs for the public by donating your registration fee. (This is one way we can all subsidize programs in this changing economic climate and ensure these programs are available on a sliding scale.)          \n\n\n\nWe gratefully acknowledge that the land on which we gather and help steward is the unceded and traditional territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam)\, Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) Nation\, and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Since time immemorial\, Coast Salish peoples have lived reciprocally with the land\, harvesting and cultivating foods and medicines and practicing ceremony. The abundance of these lands and waters\, which enables us to live\, work\, and play here today\, is a result of the past and on-going stewardship and advocacy of the Coast Salish peoples.
