SUMMARY:Fungi\, Death and Decay
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets\n Problems using the ticket form below? You can also get tickets here. \n SPES uses the Zeffy platform to process payments\, so your entire purchase goes to us. If you’d like to help Zeffy keep running its services\, you can choose to tip them. If you don’t want to\, choose “Other” in the drop-down menu and then enter $0. \n\n\n\n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIN-PERSON PROGRAM  \n\n\n\nFungi are the keepers of the veil between the realms of the living and the dead. Learn from mycologist Willoughby Arévalo how all life depends on the death and decay brought about by these dwellers of the underworld. Join us for this special outing at the time when the veil between worlds is at its thinnest and most permeable\, when souls and spores alike may drift across. You’re welcome to create a biodegradable offering in the forest (no invasives please) as a gift to our fungal kin.  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nABOUT PROGRAM LEADER   \n\n\n\nWilloughby Arévalo is a mycologist\, artist\, kitchen wizard\, father\, and educator who made friends with mushrooms as a young child and has been showing people how to work with fungi for the last decade. Willoughby regularly teaches community workshops locally and internationally on mushroom cultivation\, ecology\, identification\, foraging\, and cooking\, and is a member of the Vancouver Mycological Society. He makes art in relation to fungi\, and grows mushrooms at his home in Vancouver\, BC. He is the author of DIY Mushroom Cultivation: Growing Mushrooms at Home for Food\, Medicine\, and Soil (2019).    \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nPROGRAM DETAILS      \n\n\n\nAccessibility notes: This program requires moving at a moderate pace with moderate and some steeper inclines on some uneven surfaces such as gravel\, pavement for up to 2 hours. If you have any questions about accessibility\, please email publiced@stanleyparkecology.ca        \n\n\n\nThis program will meet at the Stanley Park #19 Bus Loop (on the adjacent grassy patch\, by the hop-on bus stop). Please arrive 5 minutes early to sign in. (1) (2) (3) (4)     \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nTerms and conditions    \n\n\n\n(1) Registration required - NO DROP-INS ARE ALLOWED.  Fees for this program are based on a sliding scale – you choose what you pay!          \n\n\n\n(2) Weather dependent - Please check your email 12 hours before the program date and time to confirm it has not been cancelled due to inclement weather such as high winds\, heavy rain\, or extreme heat.                \n\n\n\n(3) Program Availability – Program full or you cannot attend this day or time?  Sign up here to be notified when the program runs in the future.        \n\n\n\n(4) Cancellation policy – We refund cancellations due to illness to keep everyone healthy\, but the number of recent cancellations is impacting our capacity to run these programs. If you must cancel\, please let us know if you need a refund or if you are able to help us offer affordable programs for the public by donating your registration fee. (This is one way we can all subsidize programs in this changing economic climate and ensure these programs are available on a sliding scale.)          \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWe gratefully acknowledge that the land on which we gather and help steward is the unceded and traditional territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam)\, Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) Nation\, and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Since time immemorial\, Coast Salish peoples have lived reciprocally with the land\, harvesting and cultivating foods and medicines and practicing ceremony. The abundance of these lands and waters\, which enables us to live\, work\, and play here today\, is a result of the past and on-going stewardship and advocacy of the Coast Salish peoples.
