IN-PERSON WORKSHOP

If your idea of a ‘bee’ is one that makes honey, lives in a hive of thousands, and serves her queen, we’re here to enrich your world with news of our native bees! Join our workshop in collaboration with MEC Vancouver, where Stanley Park Ecology Society educator Julia Taylor will lead participants through the incredible diversity of native bees found in our region and break down common misconceptions. You’ll learn about their unique life cycles, how to tell between bees, wasps, and flies, practice some bumblebee ID, and understand their crucial roles in our ecosystems that have evolved over millions of years — with a chance to get up-close and personal with some bee specimens! Whether you’d like to support native species, give your garden a boost, or simply dive into the tiny but mighty world of these fascinating insects, join us for engaging presentations and hands-on learning to “Discover the Buzz”!

Plus:

  • Take a look at bee specimens through a microscope!
  • Each participant will walk away with garden seeds to support pollinators!
  • Take part in “Adopt a Pollinator” with SPES, and receive a corresponding certificate and magnet

The land on which we gather is the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Musqueam (xʷməθkʷəy̓əm), Squamish (Skwxwú7mesh), and Tsleil-Waututh (səlilwətaɬ) Peoples. Their stewardship and respect for this land has carried forward for thousands of years long before settlers named it “Stanley Park”.
