April 29 @ 11:00 am 3:00 pm PDT

SPES is excited to announce that we will be taking part in the City Nature Challenge, an annual four-day global BioBlitz at the end of April, where cities are in a friendly competition to promote citizen science and engaging in biodiversity research with iNaturalist in collaboration with the Fraser River Discovery Centre. Join fellow nature and wildlife enthusiasts in Stanley Park on Saturday, April 29th from 11:00am to 3:00pm to be a part of the fun! The event will begin at the trailhead between Beaver Lake Trail and Ravine Trail where participants will disperse throughout the Park to search for and document any and all species, including birds, plants, fungi, and other wildlife. Observations from the BioBlitz will be compiled with the CNC iNaturalist project and contribute to a global dataset that will help scientists and researchers monitor biodiversity!

We recommend downloading iNaturalist onto your phone prior to the event, as this will be the main method of data collection. Paid parking is available along Pipeline Road, and the meeting location is a short 10-minute walk from the Bus Loop located near the Stanley Park Pavillion. SPES staff will be present to help show participants how to use iNaturalist, as well as to help with species identification during the event.

For more information on the City Nature Challenge, related events, virtual iNaturalist training sessions, and more, we recommend checking out the Fraser River Discovery Centre’s website.
