IN-PERSON PROGRAM
Are you a cat owner interested in protecting local wildlife? Do you want to learn to spend time outdoors with your kitty in a way that is safe for both them and the environment? Join Bryna Turk (Stewardship Centre for BC) for a Sunday afternoon chat with fellow cat-owners! This is an excellent opportunity for cat owners (and those thinking about adopting a cat) to meet up and share their experiences with leash-walking and other ways to safely allow their cats outdoors.
We’ll also chat about the impact of outdoor cats on wild birds, including which birds are specifically at risk of cat attacks, and what types of urban spaces are great for admiring nature with your kitty. Drop-ins are welcome, but register and attend for a chance to win cool prizes for your cat! (This event is just for the cat owners or potential owners. Please leave your cats at home for this one!)
We are proud to include this program in our Vancouver Bird Celebration events. Check out our other free events from May 14 to May 29 and get excited about birds with us!
This program will meet at the Nature House on Lost Lagoon (located near the intersection of Alberni and Chilco Street, underneath the viewing platform). Please arrive 15 minutes early to complete a health check.
Masks are strongly suggested for this indoor program.
Accessibility note: This location is wheelchair accessible via Lost Lagoon Path. There is a public, wheelchair accessible washroom nearby. If you have any questions about accessibility, please email Anna at publiced@stanleyparkecology.ca.
*By purchasing a ticket, you are agreeing to complete the following health check at the start of your program.
**Pre-registration is optional but suggested. If you pre-register and attend, you are eligible to win cool prizes for your cat! This program is free – please consider donating with pre-registration, and all donations will go to funding future events like this.
***Program full or you can’t attend this day/time? Sign up here to be notified if this program runs again in the future!
*****Cancellation policy – We are accommodating refunds for cancellations due to illness to keep everyone healthy, but the number of recent cancellations is impacting our capacity to run these programs. If you must cancel, please let us know if you need a refund or if you are able to help us offer affordable programs for the public (we will continue to seek ways of subsidizing programs in this changing economic climate as well!)
We gratefully acknowledge that the land on which we gather and help steward is the unceded and traditional territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) Nation, and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Since time immemorial, Coast Salish peoples have lived reciprocally with the land, harvesting and cultivating foods and medicines and practicing ceremony. The abundance of these lands and waters, which enables us to live, work, and play here today, is a result of the past and on-going stewardship and advocacy of the Coast Salish peoples.
