Get to know our local feathered friends while in community outdoors. Led by biologist Rémi Torrenta\, this program will guide participants through encounters with the local birds found in Stanley Park. Explore the waters of Lost Lagoon and the trees and plants that line the trail\, and keep your eyes and ears out for the many summer residents that could be found\, such as warblers\, swallows\, hummingbirds\, flycatchers\, and more. No experience necessary\, and participants will be able to borrow binoculars from Rémi! \n\n\n\nThis event is reserved specifically for LGBTQ2S+ individuals\, in order to provide a safe and inclusive space to explore birding and nature. \n\n\n\nLEADER BIO \n\n\n\nRémi Torrenta (he/him) is the British Columbia Projects Coordinator and Bird Biologist at Birds Canada\, and passionate about anything related to wildlife and wilderness adventures. After getting his Ph.D. in forest bird ecology in eastern Canada\, he worked as a Naturalist Guide and Bird Biologist\, before moving to the West Coast. Rémi has a strong conviction that conservation goals are better achieved through education and Citizen Science. Let’s dive into the fascinating world of birds and how to identify them! \n\n\n\nABOUT “BIRDING WITH ME” SERIES \n\n\n\nCome Birding with Me and learn about our local birds on free\, guided bird walks that celebrate diversity in bird and human communities. Inspired by the National Audubon Society’s Let’s Go Birding Together series\, Birding with Me walks welcome in experts and participants of shared identity to explore birding together and meet new people. \n\n\n\nPROGRAM DETAILS \n\n\n\nAccessibility notes: This program will move at a gentle-moderate pace on a mostly level path around Lost Lagoon on concrete\, gravel\, and dirt trails with a few moderate inclines. If you have any questions or input about accessibility\, please email publiced@stanleyparkecology.ca    \n\n\n\nThis program will meet at the Nature House on Lost Lagoon (located near the intersection of Alberni and Chilco Street\, underneath the viewing platform).  Please arrive 5-10 minutes early to sign in.   \n\n\n\nTerms and Conditions \n\n\n\n(1) Registration required - NO DROP-INS ARE ALLOWED.  This program is free! If you register and no longer can make it\, please email us at publiced@stanleyparkecology.ca so we can offer the space to another participant. \n\n\n\n(2) Weather – Our tours typically run rain or shine. Rarely\, programs may be postponed or cancelled due extreme weather like high winds or extreme heat.  We will alert you by email if the program needs to be rescheduled.  \n\n\n\nThe land on which we gather is the traditional\, ancestral\, and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam)\, Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish)\, and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Peoples. Their stewardship and respect for this land has carried forward for thousands of years long before settlers named it “Stanley Park”.
