Get to know our local feathered friends while in community outdoors. Led by biologist and photographer Kris Cu\, this program will introduce participants to the birds that are active in the evening at Queen Elizabeth Park. This time of year\, the trees\, skies\, and bushes of QE Park are home to the spring and summer residents\, many of which have traveled hundreds or thousands of kilometers for the spring migration season. Possible encounters include hummingbirds\, warblers\, swallows\, and more! No experience necessary\, and participants will be able to borrow binoculars from Kris! This event is part of the Greater Vancouver Bird Celebration! \n\n\n\nThis event is reserved specifically for the Filipino community\, in order to provide a safe and inclusive space to explore birding and nature. \n\n\n\nBirding with Me was made possible through the financial support of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation’s National Anti-Racism Fund. \n\n\n\nABOUT THE GREATER VANCOUVER BIRD CELEBRATION  \n\n\n\nGet more familiar with the birds around us during the Greater Vancouver Bird Celebration! Organized by a collection of non-profits\, artists\, and other institutions\, the Celebration is a two-week series of events to appreciate the bird species of Greater Vancouver. Events are open to all and most are free\, with programs including bird-related workshops\, walks\, talks\, exhibitions\, and lectures. Check out all the events here: https://vancouverbirdcelebration.ca/   \n\n\n\nLEADER BIO \n\n\n\nKris Cu grew up in the bustling city of Manila\, the Philippines and loved watching the Pied Fantails forage around his neighbour’s garden. Upon moving to Canada\, Kris completed a Biological Sciences degree from Simon Fraser University and is now the Digital Media & Outreach Specialist for Birds Canada. In his spare time\, Kris is also a wildlife photographer\, birding guide and overall nature enthusiast! \n\n\n\nABOUT “BIRDING WITH ME” SERIES \n\n\n\nCome Birding with Me and learn about our local birds on free\, guided bird walks that celebrate diversity in bird and human communities. Inspired by the National Audubon Society’s Let’s Go Birding Together series\, Birding with Me walks welcome in experts and participants of shared identity to explore birding together and meet new people. \n\n\n\nPROGRAM DETAILS \n\n\n\nAccessibility notes: This program will move at a gentle-moderate pace along concrete pathways that include some inclines\, as the Park is on a hilltop. If you have any questions or input about accessibility\, please email publiced@stanleyparkecology.ca    \n\n\n\nThis program will meet at Queen Elizabeth Park by the public washrooms here. Please try to arrive 15 minutes in advance of the program. \n\n\n\nTerms and Conditions \n\n\n\n(1) Registration required - NO DROP-INS ARE ALLOWED.  This program is free! If you register and no longer can make it\, please email us at publiced@stanleyparkecology.ca so we can offer the space to another participant. \n\n\n\n(2) Weather – Our tours typically run rain or shine. Rarely\, programs may be postponed or cancelled due extreme weather like high winds or extreme heat.  We will alert you by email if the program needs to be rescheduled.  \n\n\n\nThe land on which we gather is the traditional\, ancestral\, and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam)\, Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish)\, and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Peoples. Their stewardship and respect for this land has carried forward for thousands of years long before settlers named it “Stanley Park”.
