SUMMARY:Birding with Me: Welcoming the BIPOC Community
DESCRIPTION:Register on Eventbrite\n\n\nWALK\n\n\n\nLed by Yousif Attia\, Birds Canada staff and national citizen science program coordinator\, this walk will introduce you to the birds found at Terra Nova Rural Park in Richmond. Together you will search for Anna’s Hummingbirds\, Northern Harriers and if lucky\, the elusive Virginia Rail. \n\n\n\nThis program will meet at the parking lot at Terra Nova located here. Please try to arrive at least 15 minutes in advance of the program. \n\n\n\nCheck out the Birding with Me series webpage to see all the events! \n\n\n\nAbout your Bird Guide \n\n\n\nYousif began obsessively studying wildlife at an early age\, especially birds and mammals\, and that eventually turned into a career as a field biologist. He currently works at Birds Canada coordinating national citizen science programs: the Christmas Bird Count and eBird in Canada. Yousif also leads birding and natural history tours for Canadian-based Eagle-Eye Tours and he is always eager to share his enthusiasm with others. \n\n\n\nBirding with Me is a part of the Vancouver Bird Celebration and organized collaboratively by Stanley Park Ecology Society\, Canadian Wildlife Service\, Birds Canada\, and the BC Bird Trail. Thank you so much to the Port of Vancouver for funding this series. \n\n\n\nThis program will follow approved COVID protocols\, and attendees must respect these protocols to participate in the program. All participants must pre-register. To make everyone comfortable\, we will encourage distancing and will be keeping numbers low to accommodate this. \n\n\n\n*By purchasing a ticket\, you are confirming you have read\, understood\, and agree to follow all COVID-19 protocols found here. Participants must include a telephone number and email address for contact tracing.  \n\n\n\n**All participants must pre-register for this program – NO DROP-INS ARE ALLOWED.  \n\n\n\nWe gratefully acknowledge that the land on which we gather and help steward is the unceded and traditional territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam)\, Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) Nation\, and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Since time immemorial\, Coast Salish peoples have lived reciprocally with the land\, harvesting and cultivating foods and medicines and practicing ceremony. The abundance of these lands and waters\, which enables us to live\, work\, and play here today\, is a result of the past and on-going stewardship and advocacy of the Coast Salish peoples. \n\n\n\nPhoto: Liron Gertsman \n\n\n\n in the outdoors.
