Learn about local living things from Fiona Cohen\, author of Curious Kids Nature Journal and Curious Kids Nature Guide. We’ll watch\, listen\, smell\, and touch\, and count\, and then record our findings in words\, numbers and pictures. Fiona will give a short free presentation from 1-2pm at the Nature House and her book will be available for purchase – drop-ins welcome!  \n\n\n\nAn optional family nature outing around Lost Lagoon will be led by a SPES Educator and requires registration. We will explore some animals and plants around us! Please see our sliding scale tickets.  \n\n\n\nABOUT PROGRAM LEADER  \n\n\n\nFiona Cohen grew up in Victoria\, Canada\, where she developed a passion for nature\, including birds\, rocks\, trees\, and squishy things on the beach. She once sustained a black eye while fleeing from an enraged river otter. Cohen now lives in Seattle\, and works as a freelance writer. She likes to hike\, grow food\, read\, and play complex board games\, especially Wingspan.  \n\n\n\nABOUT Curious Kids Nature Journal  \n\n\n\nOrganized by ecosystem\, this journal encourages kids to use their senses to explore nature and make observations in their own backyards and beyond. Over 100 color and scientifically accurate illustrations help kids more easily look for and identify plants and animals\, as well as natural phenomena\, such as animal tracks and nurse logs. Writing\, drawing\, and activity prompts inspire kids to record and track their observations.  \n\n\n\nPROGRAM DETAILS       \n\n\n\nAccessibility notes: This program requires moving at a moderate pace with moderate inclines on some uneven surfaces around Lost Lagoon (such as gravel and pavement) for up to 1 hour. If you have any questions about accessibility\, please email Anna at publiced@stanleyparkecology.ca      \n\n\n\n      \n\n\n\nThis program will meet at the Nature House on Lost Lagoon (located near the intersection of Alberni and Chilco Street\, underneath the viewing platform) and proceed to Cathedral Trail. Please arrive 5 minutes early to complete a health check.   (1) (2) (3) (4)       \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nTerms and conditions     \n\n\n\n(1) Registration required - NO DROP-INS ARE ALLOWED.  Fees for this program are based on a sliding scale – you choose what you pay!       \n\n\n\n         \n\n\n\n(2) Weather dependent - Please check your email 12 hours before the program date and time to confirm it has not been cancelled due to inclement weather such as high winds\, heavy rain\, or extreme heat.       \n\n\n\n             \n\n\n\n(3) Program Availability – Program full or you cannot attend this day or time?   Sign up here to be notified when the program runs in the future.      \n\n\n\n       \n\n\n\n(4) Cancellation policy – We refund cancellations due to illness to keep everyone healthy\, but the number of recent cancellations is impacting our capacity to run these programs. If you must cancel\, please let us know if you need a refund or if you are able to help us offer affordable programs for the public by donating your registration fee. (This is one way we can all subsidize programs in this changing economic climate and ensure these programs are available on a sliding scale.)           \n\n\n\n       \n\n\n\nWe gratefully acknowledge that the land on which we gather and help steward is the unceded and traditional territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam)\, Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) Nation\, and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Since time immemorial\, Coast Salish peoples have lived reciprocally with the land\, harvesting and cultivating foods and medicines and practicing ceremony. The abundance of these lands and waters\, which enables us to live\, work\, and play here today\, is a result of the past and on-going stewardship and advocacy of the Coast Salish peoples.
