Role Description
Do you enjoy working with children and spending your days outside? You can help connect young people with nature by volunteering as an EcoCamp Assistant this Summer Break! Stanley Park Ecology runs outdoor day camps for children aged 6 – 11 based in Stanley Park each summer. This is a great opportunity to become familiar with the Park, gain experience working with children in an educational and outdoor setting, and help empower children to connect with nature in meaningful ways. EcoCamp Assistants will work with camp staff to provide a quality day camp experience for kids in nature!
Duties
Alongside Stanley Park Ecology Educators, EcoCamp Assistants will:
- Support preparations for and delivery of fun and educational activities;
- Assist in supervising EcoCampers;
- Participate enthusiastically in camp activities and be a positive role model;
- Encourage respect for nature, personal property, camp equipment and facilities;
- Communicate with Educators to work as a team;
- Carry materials and equipment to and from locations within the Park;
- Prepare camp equipment and resources.
Time Commitment
Our Summer Camp dates are:
- Week 1: June 30-July 4
- Week 2: July 7-11
- Week 3: July 14-18
- Week 4: July 21-25
- Week 5: July 28-August 1
- Week 6: August 5-8
- Week 7: August 11-15
- Week 8: August 18-22
- Week 9: August 25-29
Volunteer shifts are four hours long with morning (8:30am-12:30pm) and afternoon (12:30pm-4:30pm) shifts available.
We are looking for volunteers to commit to at least two weeks of camp over the summer.
Location
Our Summer EcoCamp will be taking place in-person in Stanley Park.
Training
Training will be held in advance of volunteering. More details will be shared closer to EcoCamp start dates.
Requirements
- Excellent communication, organizational and leadership skills;
- A willingness to work outdoors, come rain or shine;
- Experience working with elementary school children is an asset;
- Applicants must be a minimum of 16 years old.
