We are seeking a creative volunteer to manage and enhance SPE’s photography and media resources. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone passionate about nature and photography to contribute their talents by documenting the beauty of Stanley Park and the impactful work of SPE programs. This role also includes light image management tasks, ensuring photos are edited, well-organized, and ready for use in SPE communications and promotional materials. Qualifications
Media Creation
- Capture high-quality photos of SPE events, programs, and the natural beauty of Stanley Park.
- Create short, engaging media pieces (e.g., 1-2 minute videos or mini-documentaries) to highlight SPE programs (e.g., DIRT, EcoRangers) or key educational topics.
- Follow ethical practices for photographing wildlife, minors, and community members, ensuring proper consent through the use of release forms.
Image Management
- Sort and select images that best represent SPES’s events, programs, and activities.
- Edit selected images using tools like Adobe Lightroom for aesthetics and clarity.
- Tag images with appropriate metadata (e.g., species, locations, event names) to ensure they are easy to find and use.
- Organize and catalogue images in SPES’s internal drives and future cloud database, maintaining a clear system of albums, galleries, and tags.
- Utilize photographer and model release forms, ensuring that these are kept up-to-date and appropriate. Ensure that the relevant release forms are stored for all associated photographers and models;
- Ensure compliance with SPE’s photographic policies and standards, including consent for all uploaded images.
Collaboration and Education
- Maintain a basic knowledge of Stanley Park’s flora and fauna, using field guides and liaising with SPE experts to accurately identify subjects.
- Develop relationships with local photographers and encourage community contributions to SPE’s media gallery.
- Collaborate with SPE staff to align media projects with organizational goals and priorities.
- Provide guidance to staff and volunteers on ethical photography practices, if needed.
Qualifications
- Photography Skills: Proficiency with DSLR/SLR cameras, ethical photography practices, and photo editing software (e.g., Adobe Lightroom).
- Videography Skills: Basic experience and an interest in creating short video content is an asset.
- Media Management Skills: Familiarity with cloud storage platforms (e.g., Dropbox, OneDrive) and organizing large media archives is an asset.
- Knowledge of Stanley Park: Familiarity with local flora, fauna, and ecosystems or a willingness to learn through guides and collaboration.
- Willingness to learn and adhere to SPES’s photographic policies and standards, including safe practices around photographing wildlife and minors and working knowledge of photographer and model release forms.
- Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Time Commitment
Approximately 5-15 hours per month. Flexible scheduling; fieldwork requires visits to Stanley Park, while some tasks (e.g., editing and tagging) can be completed remotely.
