Cob House Popcorn Vendor Details

Stanley Park Ecology recruits enthusiastic and service-oriented volunteers to join our team and sell popcorn during Train events in Stanley Park. This exciting role involves working from the charming “Cob House” in the Miniature Train Plaza, where you’ll have the opportunity to engage with visitors, promote our vital ecological work, and help raise crucial funds for our initiatives. 

As a popcorn vendor, you’ll play a key role in making the Train experience memorable for all attendees while directly contributing to the preservation and enhancement of Stanley Park. Your efforts will help support our ongoing conservation projects and educational programs that benefit both the park and the community. 

Role Duties

  • Prepare and sell popcorn at the Cob House popcorn stand in Stanley Park;
  • Handle card transactions;
  • Support the opening and closing of the popcorn stand;
  • Adhere to strict sanitation procedures to ensure a clean and safe working environment;
  • Help to maintain an appropriate stock of supplies and assist in moving supplies as needed;
  • Answer queries from Train visitors about SPES.

Requirements

  • Enjoy interacting with the public and able to communicate in a friendly and polite manner;
  • Good English-speaking skills;
  • Able to take directions and work as a team in a busy environment;
  • Willingness to work in a semi-outdoor environment;
  • Reliable transportation to and from Stanley Park (note that the number 19 bus stop is right next to the miniature train area);
  • Be a minimum of 16 years old;
  • Foodsafe Level 1 is an asset but not required.

Training

Training sessions will be offered in advance of or during the first volunteer shift and will cover:

  • Preparing popcorn for sale;
  • Handling payment;
  • Safety and cleaning procedures.

Time Commitment

The Cob House is open seasonally. Shift typically last between 4-6 hours, depending on the event and day.

Volunteers must able to commit to at least one shift per week while the Train is in operation.
