Calling all bird nerds and ‘bird curious’

Vancouver Bird Week will be returning this spring to celebrate all things avian! SPES is excited to be coordinating this city-wide annual event for the first time since 2015. From May 11 to 17 there will be workshops and walks galore hosted by a variety of partners across the Lower Mainland. We will be bringing back some favourites to Stanley Park like the Hipster Bird Walk and Nest Box workshop. Tours will be led by local bird experts with a keen eye and ear for the birds in the Park. The Nature House on Lost Lagoon will be a hub of bird-centered activity and crafts. With such a wide variety of events there is sure to be something for everyone.

Leading up to the festival we will also be posting a new feature: Bird of the Week! Join us every week as we profile a new bird species for you to discover – highlighting the diversity and beauty of Vancouver’s local birds. Visit our webpage in April to view the weekly bird stars.

Check out the Bird Week website in April for event details: http://www.vancouverbirdweek.ca/ And, if you can’t wait until then to satisfy your inner bird nerd, visit our Wildlife Reports webpage to view our latest monthly bird count results in Stanley Park that include a rare sighting of a snipe at Lost Lagoon (see if you can spot it in the photograph accompanying the report).
