Celebrating Our Volunteers

On Tuesday August 29th, volunteers, staff and board members came together for an evening of celebration in the stunning setting of Ceperley Picnic Site by Second Beach. Our annual summer gathering honours the hard work, commitment and incredible contribution that volunteers make to Stanley Park Ecology Society.

We feasted on vegetable chilli, a selection of meats and cheeses, and homemade desserts using seasonal berries, all washed down with homemade lemonade. It was wonderful to see so many volunteers from different projects come and join us to share stories of volunteering and meet other volunteers, as well as staff members who they may not have had a chance to meet before. As someone who spends a lot of time coordinating different volunteer opportunities, it was great to put faces to names and meet volunteers that I had heard so much about!

As we were treated to yet another incredible sunset over English Bay, we tested out knowledge of Stanley Park with a game of trivia whilst letting all the food and cakes digest. I would like to thank everyone who came, everyone who helped with setting up and for all of our amazing volunteer’s ongoing hard work that makes such a difference to the ecology, education and engagement in Stanley Park.

If you are interested in joining one (or more!) of our volunteer projects we have several upcoming EcoStewards events this fall, beginning Saturday, September 9th and running on the following Saturdays: September 23rd, October 14th and October 28th. Each session runs from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and may include  developing SPES’s native plant nursery in preparation for the fall planting events and other Park stewardship work that will be coming up in the following months.  If you would be interested in attending any of these events, check out the Events Calendar or email stewardship@stanleyparkecology.ca .
