Causeway Update

Sidewalk safety improvements for pedestrian and cycling access along the Stanley Park Causeway will be undertaken by the Ministry of Transportation late August through November 2015.  Over the course of the past year, SPES was involved in the considerations and negotiations along with the Vancouver Park Board and First Nations. With public input, final plans were agreed upon in late spring.

A railing will separate both sidewalks from vehicular traffic. The western sidewalk will be designated southbound for cyclists and widened minimally, although two cycling pullouts for passing are a concession.  As the eastbound sidewalk will handle two-way pedestrian and northbound cycling, it is slated to be widened on average by approximately two metres. Tree removal has been creatively minimized and maintenance plans are in place to manage invasive plants.
