Today, SPES’ school programs staff and volunteers delivered the first program of the new school year. 26 grade 6 students came out to the Park from Immaculate Conception school in Vancouver. The weather cooperated beautifully and so did the wildlife. We spotted a great blue heron, pelagic cormorants, northwestern crows and many gulls – including one eating a sunstar. We piloted a new activity called Seashore Solo, where students were challenged to stay quiet and still for 10 minutes while using their senses to examine intertidal life around them. One student counted over 300 barnacles in a space the size of his foot!
