EcoCamp Counsellor

Do you enjoy spending time outdoors, amongst the trees and at the beach? Do you like working with children? Tap into your passion and help connect young people with nature by volunteering as an EcoCamp Counsellor this summer!

Stanley Park Ecology Society (SPES) runs outdoor day camps for children ages 7 – 11 based in Stanley Park each spring and summer. This is an incredible opportunity to become familiar with the Park, gain experience working and teaching children in an educational & outdoor setting, and help empower children to connect with nature in meaningful ways. EcoCamp Counsellors will help to deliver outdoor, nature-based day camps.

We are seeking creative, innovative and passionate counsellors for this role. Applicants must be available for training during the week of June 26 – July 1st, and commit to at least two weeks of camp (4 hour shifts).

Position: EcoCamp Counsellor Location: Stanley Park, Vancouver, BC Hours: 20 hours/week, minimum of 2 weeks

As an EcoCamp Counsellor you will:
  • Teach and deliver the day camp curriculum in a fun and safe manner
  • Supervise day camp participants (7 – 11 year olds), and lead in the delivery of activities
  • Be a positive role model to the children and to the other counsellors and assistants
  • Provide leadership and participate enthusiastically in camp activities
  • Encourage respect for nature, personal property, camp equipment, and facilities
  • Communicate with SPES staff and other assistant counsellors to work as a team
  • Carry materials and equipment to and from locations within the Park
  • Help ensure campers are following COVID-19 guidelines
  • Sanitize and prepare camp equipment and resources

  • Eager and willing to learn and gain experience in educational programming
  • Excellent leadership, organization, teamwork and communication skills
  • Willingness to work and play outdoors in all weather conditions
  •  Comfortable teaching and introducing activities to a group
  • Ability to pass a criminal record check with vulnerable sector search
  • Experience working with elementary school children would be an asset
  • Experience coordinating and supervising summer day camps or outdoor education is an asset
  • Strong knowledge of BC ecology is an asset
  • Completion of grade 11
