Rodent Taxidermy

February 2 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Photo: Jonna Lepeska

COURSE

NOTE: Allowance for children ages 12 or below is up to the discretion of the parents. While not a bloody procedure, the taxidermy process may cause discomfort for some individuals. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Advance notice is required for sufficient preparation of materials. Please bring your own rodent-sized props, if desired!

Scurry over and learn about the furry, little denizens native to Stanley Park, their fascinating biology, and importance to the ecosystem, before picking up a scalpel. In SPES’s very first course offering, we take a closer look at the inner workings of these rodents’ foreign cousin: the rat.

This is an intensive workshop that guides you through creating a full-body taxidermy mount in one 3-hour session (or less!). You can expect to:

1. Get familiar with the anatomy of a rodent species

2. Learn the basics of the taxidermy process and follow step-by-step instructions in skinning, framing and stuffing your specimen

3. Be creative in posing your specimen with desired props

4. Take home and display your creation!
