Playing a leadership role in the stewardship of Stanley Park’s ecology

In 2013, SPES – an independent non-profit charity – celebrated its 25th anniversary as a leading Park Partner in Stanley Park and Vancouver’s metropolitan region. Every year, our educators connect thousands of people with nature through school and public programs while our conservation team engages community volunteers in habitat restoration and wildlife monitoring. SPES advises the Vancouver Park Board and provides baseline information on conservation issues within the Park, including ecosystem integrity, Environmentally Sensitive Areas and Species at Risk.

Our mission, vision and goals direct our many initiatives, and our commitment to evaluative reports such as the State of the Park Report for the Ecological Integrity of Stanley Park inform our priorities and positively influence the operations of Park Management.

The Vancouver Park Board provides the three facilities that are home bases for SPES, including:

  • Stanley Park Nature House on Lost Lagoon
  • 2nd floor Dining Pavilion offices which houses SPES HQ
  • The Earthen Architecture Cob Popcorn Stand in the Miniature Train Plaza

Grants, private donations and memberships, program revenues and service fees fund SPES. We are grateful for the generous support of local businesses and foundations that enable us to continue our work.
