Shelby-Lynn Soney

My name is Shelby-Lynn Soney and I am the stewardship intern! I am a Two-spirit Anishnaabe and Mohawk person from Bkejwanong Unceded Territory. I was born and raised in Southern Ontario but have been living in the Lower Mainland on and off for about 6 years. I’m a student at UBC in the First Nations and Indigenous Studies program and will be returning in September to finish my final year of my BA. I got placed here at SPES through an internship program called ‘Roots and Shoots’ through the Environmental Youth Alliance! Some topics I am interested and passionate about are Indigenous food sovereignty and the ways that intersects with land stewardship and conservation work. In my spare time, you will usually find me playing with my puppy Astro or working out/being active in some way (I love doing jump rope, hiking, and dancing). I also am an avid crafter and love making art of all kinds like weaving, sewing, beadwork, etc.!
