Joslin Kobylka

Joslin was first involved with SPES back when it was the Zoological Society and she was still working with the Park Board as a Recreation Manager. When the City’s zoo referendum failed, she and the Society President worked to keep the Society and its Park Board Operating Agreement alive with a focus on environmental education, conservation and programs. She remained an Advisor until she retired in 1997 when she joined the Board. After a six year period she returned to the role of Advisor.

Joslin’s career with the City began in community centres in 1959. She worked for 10 years and then transferred to the City’s new Social Planning Dept. Four years and two children later, she retired for a few years of parenting and some work with UBC, supervising students in their Recreation Fieldwork program. In 1978 Joslin returned to the Park Board as a Recreation Manager and a stimulating series of responsibilities that eventually included her association with the organization that became SPES.
